Bacterial ectoenzymes in marine waters: Activity ratios and temperature responses in three oceanographic provinces

چکیده
Ectoenzymatic hydrolysis is a crucial first step in bacterial utilization of polymeric dissolved organic matter (DOM). Variation in the relative activities of different enzymes can indicate seasonal and geographic variation in the mode of bacterioplankton nutrition. We found that relative activities of leucine aminopeptidase and P-glucosidase in seawater varied significantly among three oceanic regions: the subtropical North Pacific, the equatorial Pacific, and the Southern Ocean. The temperature responses of these enzymes also vary significantly among these three regions, suggesting distinct bacterial phenotypes with distinct isozymes. Our results suggest a latitudinal trend in bacterial carbon and nitrogen utilization, with significant synthesis of cell constituents from glucose and ammonium in equatorial waters but little such de novo synthesis in Antarctic waters. The observed patterns have important implications for the parameterization of secondary production and nutrient regeneration in global production models and for understanding the role of DOM in global carbon and

Identification and study of some ecological indicators of Scyphomedusae from coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan (the North of Persian Gulf)
Coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces are very important in the fisheries industry. Due to of direct and indirect impacts of the Jellyfish on the dynamic of fish larvae and zooplankton, study of their population is very important. So that in this study scyphomedusae were collected in summer and winter of 2015 from 6 stations of coastal waters of Khuzestan and Hormozgan. Sampling w...

Background and Objectives: ?????? Methods: ?????? Findings: ?????? Conclusion: ????? One way to predict how marine ecosystems will react to climate change is to use the time series data. Considering the various economic and ecological values of marine species, and that the demographic dynamics of these species depend on two factors of climate variability and human activities, it was deci...

The zooplankton community and environmental conditions were monitored during Dec. 2012 PG-GOOS (Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman Oceanographic Study) oceanographic cruise on board N/V Ja Nayband throughout the northwestern part of the Persian Gulf. Data of temperature, salinity, depth and pH as well as zooplankton community composition and abundance were collected from 17 stations. The zoopla...
متن کاملReview Papers:Species diversity and distribution pattern of marine mammals of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman - Iranian Waters
A total of 98 marine mammal records from Iranian coastal waters of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman were compiled of which 66 are previously unpublished new records. Seventy-nine were from the Persian Gulf and 16 from the Gulf of Oman coast. The largest numbers of records were from Qeshm Island and Bushehr Provinces. Records of finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides), Indo-pacific humpba...
متن کاملChanges in bacterial activity and community structure in response to dissolved organic matter in the Hudson River, New York
This study examined the effect of dissolved organic matter (DOM) on ectoenzymatic activity, bacterial growth and community structure in the Hudson River. Our main approach was to mix bacterial communities and water from various locations in the Hudson River and its tributaries, and then to monitor bacterial activity and community structure determined by fluorescence in situ hybridization with o...
